Have you ever noticed that some of your campaigns receive many more clicks from the content network than the search network? This is because your ads are being shown many more times than the ads that are being displayed for certain keywords. If you are not careful, you can deplete your entire budget in a matter of hours.
If you use conversion tracking you will quickly realize that the majority of your conversions are coming from the search network and not the content network. So what would be the fastest way to increase your conversion ratio? Stop using the content network!
I recently ran a test in a new pay per click campaign I was starting. I decided to run the campaign first with the content network on and the search network off. I received around 500 clicks the first day with a grand total of zero conversion! For the next test I disabled the content network for a few days and enable the search network. The first day I received only 17 clicks with a total of 3 conversions! Talk about increasing profitability. Not only did I increase my profit, but I also increased my ads rankings without paying any more money. The better your click through ratio is the higher your ad ranks.
Keep all of this in mind if you are just starting out with pay per click advertising. Sometimes you can get the results you want by having your ads display on on the search engines and not on other websites. Be sure to set a budget and keep the content network off at first. It is your best chance for profits.
