SEO – Seek Every Opportunity

By Andrew Blachut

Millions of words have been written about SEO but it’s mostly common sense and while SEO means search engine optimisation it could just as accurately be an acronym for Seek Every Opportunity

Seek Every Opportunity to do what?

Seek Every Opportunity to get a link to your website that’s what!

The web is like a big democracy and whilst it’s not fair, neither are all ofline democracies. In fact some would argue that the net is becoming less like a democracy and more like an online dictatorship insofar as Google rules the roost and really has no significant challenger that is readily apparent at the time of writing .

But for the sake of this SEO analogy the net operates for your purposes as a democracy. In this democracy people get to vote. They vote in a popularity contest and you win their vote at least as far as Google is concerned, when they backlink to your website. Google sees this as significant and its probably the simplest and yet still the most important SEO factor that makes sites rank well.

All things being equal if two websites both have 100 sites linking back to their site then in theory they will rank similarly. If the number of links is the same and even if there is a large numerical discrepancy sites can still outrank other sites by having better quality backlinks. Now all this may not come as startling information to many people and yet I remain amazed at how complicated some people are trying to make good ranking appear to be.

I have satisfied myself that links can still overcome poor content although those days may be numbered. I convinced myself that most Seo is pure commonsense. I realized that despite the mystification process of people with products to sell, the net is built on words and words are what still interest’s Google the most. Sure, images are increasingly important, as are audio and video but at its heart the web is built on countless billions of words.

I personally tested some of the more basic components of trueseo and I found that I was able to quickly, surprisingly quickly, outrank competitors who had a seven year head start on my websites. I’d like to say it was easy and in many ways it was, but I also realize that my sites ranked because I was getting really good linkbacks from quality sites and that took some work. I found that there were tons of great niches that could be very easily dominated in the australian market because australian seo seemed to be less refined or advanced. Or perhaps it was just far less competitive than its US counterpart.

I soon realized that a few quality links ran rings around having hundreds of poor backlinks. The really great thing I discovered though is that it gets easier and easier to rank both higher and faster with every new site I build. The primary reason for that is because I now have a battery of my own sites which I can use to launch the new ones.

This makes a real discernible difference and it is of course a catch 22 and the Achilles heel of new sites and newbies in general. That’s because they have no network and it’s hard to make their site appealing enough to make other sites want to link back to them. But it can be done and you need to treat it like a serenade. You need to woo sites with your content or your angle. Once you realize that, you’ll start getting great backlinks and it will all start to have a snowball effect.

Thats what I initially did with my network of real estate private sale sites and now because they all have good page rank and high positions in Google the process of launching each new sites becomes increasingly smooth.

My advice then is to definitely have a foot in both link camps. Go for a lot, a real lot of backlinks.

Get anything you can to start with, to gain some impetus.

But while you are doing that begin to formulate a plan to entice some heavy hitter authority sites to pick you up as a link swap or better yet a one way link.

It’s a very simple strategy but one that will have you Top of the Pops before you know it.
